After boobesque's thread on blood tests, does anyone else have any irrational fears.
I have a real nasty fear of drowning....i often have nightmares about it and it wakes me up with a start. Just thinking about it makes me go cold

I am OK when they are dead - but chickens geese ducks turkeys - I am coming out in a sweat just thinking about them. I am OK with birds in general - I have even handled owls and other birds of prey - but if its on the ground and bigger than a pigeon - then I'm gone.

Spiders obviously,
Rabbits
Horses
being burned alive
being held at gunpoint at work and being forced to strip or die in front of all my colleagues, this is a recurring nightmare of mine.
As a teenager I used to read Dean Koontz books and I was terrified that if someone broke into the house they would see the book and kill me in a way that some one in the book had been murdered so I used to hide them under my bed (between mattress and bed) and the ones in the shelves were all facing the wrong way.

genuphobia for me! fear of knees. how daft is that? i can't bear my knees touched, touch someones knees, hear about knees and knee operations or see knees. think it comes from my grandma who told me that racehorses knees were bandaged as they were broken but still had to run. summer is a kneemare for me, can hardly type the word! oh, and escalators, especially going down as i think i'm going to fall. apart from that i'm quite normal.

I'm fine with everything at the dentist exept when they stick needles in the roof of your mouth.
Not being able to move my arms is the worst one though, just thinking about it I get all panicy and can't breath properly. I remember when I was a kid my cousin rolled me up in a rug (i let her) and a few seconds later I went crazy and stopped breathing and then passed out and was rushed to hospital, the doctor said that my heart could have stopped.

The scrapy thing... what hell! I hate that to, I had to have the nerves removed from 2 teeth after getting them knocked out in a fight on christmas eve (****** guy lashed out at me) and I had to have them put back in on christmas day! Still I suppose its lucky I've still got them although after about 7 dentist trips for treatment I think I would rather of had false teeth!
This is a very strange one - pigeons! I can trace the roots of this phobia to when I was a child. However, even knowing why I have the phobia doesn't get rid of it.
It is embarrassing having to get someone to walk in front of me to chase pigeons away! Nearly missed a chance to go up the Eiffel Tower as there were too many pigeons amassed below it!
Don't think I will ever be able to visit St Marks Square in Venice.

I had two irrational fears growing up but mine were caused by specific evetns as a child. I was terrifeid of wasps and bees - and would run and scream like a lune if anything buzzed near me - even bluebottles. I was stung in the mouth aged 7 - a wasp flew into my can of coke unknown to me - aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!!! I'm ok now. I also was petrified of the dentist. I'm still not keen on going but not the way I was - my first dentist committed suicide by gassing himself inthe dentist chair when I was 9.
Don't feel weird spacechick my fiend has a phobia of pigeon's too. It did get a lot of teasing as people always say to her but dove's are the bird of peace. She had a crocheted top on as a kid and a pigeon got it's feet stuck inside and scratched all her face
I forgot to say I hate the thought of cremation - the thought of being burnt alive - I'd rather be buried alive instead. My dad's aunt was so crazy that she was terrified of being buried alive that she wrote in her will for the doctor who recorded her death to break her neck to make sure she was really dead - how nuts is that

Porcelain dolls. They are so sinister looking. I kept getting them as presents when I was younger for some reason and I didn't have the heart to say that they creep me out. Their eyes just seem to follow you. Same goes with ragdolls and clowns. Stephen King's IT ? Enough said. When I was a little girl my mum's friend gave her a picture of Barbra Striesand which she had painted and it was awful. The artwork was good but Babs just looked sooooooooo evil. I used to run past that picture because I felt that she was watching me. The eyes in that picture definitely followed me , Scooby Doo style i'm telling you ! (Or at least ,that's the way I remember it !) Thankfully my mum got rid of it.
