purple tongue

my friend lives too far to visit a lot, she has e-mailed to say her tomgue and lips have turned purple and her tongue feels like its on fire and her GP has sent her for a blood test but not prescribed anything till the results are in. Has this happened to anyone ? and what was the diagnosis pls.
