Does anyone have any home remedies for these nasty little bug*ers? Both my big toes have them now! I don't really want to have to go to the Chiropodist if I don't have to.
Any help will be greatly appreciated :o) x

I had an ingrowing toenail on the same toe 3 times running. In the end they take the roots out to stop it growing back, look *proffers big toe to AB board* you still get a horrible little nail growing back after. sorry jiggy, but no remedy :-(
agreed, there are thikngs to lessen the3 pain and discomfort but its advised to get them removed. I tried everything, even went on antibiotics for months to stop the infedtion. Gave in in the end and had both side of my right toe removed. havent had a problem since. Get it removed, its the only way!
eeeew Bool, get that outta my face will ya!!

Jiggy, I had one when I was 17 (so long ago) it wasn't as bad as some cases, I just had to clip the nail straight and use magnesium sulphate on the swelling.

Thanks guys, so I'm guessing a trip to the docs is in order then! Does removal hurt a lot and were you able to walk straight after? Sorry if I sound dumb, lol!
the [procedure itsself is quite bloody, but painless. The only thing that hurts is the injection. You are supposed to have 2 injections on the toes, I had 5! As my toes wouldnt numb in places. After the procedure and the injection had worn off I felt no pain at all. Not even days after the procedure. after 5 days I went back to the hospital and had the dressing changed, and put my shoe back on and went back to work!

Thanks Spaced, you're a star. I don't mind the pain so much but I am rather squeamish so I hope it doesn't come to that then! I hope you're all ok now? This weather doesn't help much either.
I had one removed about 10 years ago, and the only thing that hurt was the initial injection (one each side of toe). I was able to walk out of the surgery afterwards. I did have to wear open toed shoes for about a fortnight afterwards though, coz I couldn't bear anything pressing on my toe. The nail never quite grew back straight either...........
I have heard (but not tried) a "guaranteed" remedy - to file a strip down the centre of the nail, as much as possible. I think the idea is that it allows space for the sides to move towards the middle, thus easing the problem.
Good luck.
