My Stepmum tried many times. She had always had mild depression but this started to escalate until she overdosed on paracetamol. She had a drip of sorts, which put her through agony as it flushed her organs and she had to be watched constantly as the pain was so bad she kept trying to pull the drip out. She stayed in for a couple of nights while they ran checks on her, mainly for her liver i believe, and then she was sent home with the recommendation of going to her GP about antidepressants.
They didn't really give a damn, even when she had PND after the birth of her last child, which sent her too far over the egde. She covered herself in white spirit (inhaling it too) in the bath and set fire to her self. Needless to say she died, but many hours later. As far as i am concerned the NHS have a gaping hole with regards depression and suicide attempts.
