I'm on antibiotics (I've got an infected insect bite) but they seem to be upsetting my stomach a bit. Am I best taking them before, during or after food?
I would take it during or RIGHT after your done eating, that way the food can coat your stomache a bit before the strong antibiotic kicks in. If it is OK to take with dairy I would also suggest drinking a little milk to stop the nausea effect. Starch and carbohydrate, like crackers and bread seem to be best for me when I am on antibiotics!
Its probably best to read the leaflet that accompanies them or ask your pharmacist just to be sure. Antibiotics can have a side effect of upset tummy tho.......
Thanks for that people, I have been taking them during food and I am aware that an upset stomach is a side effect but I wondered if having them before, during or after food was better for my tummy, I'll continue with during I think.
I've no idea what bit me but it was on my ankle and the infection is spreading up towards my knee! At least it's starting to go down now on I'm the antibiotics.
Me and my mum both get really a bad tummy when we take Erythromicin tablets. Ask for it as medicine not tablets or ask for an alternative antibiotic instead.
squsalminney - no it's not flucloxacillin - I'm allergic to penicillin (if you think the bite's bad you should see what happens to me if I take penicillin!) - it is indeed msemma Erythromycin. I didn't know you could get it as a medicine. I'll bear that in mind next time I need antibiotics.
