Maybe it's a bit like marmite (I hate the stuff but others love it) or msg (monosodium glutamate - I detest it, it makes me feel sick and so I can't abide chinese food with it in, but other friends are virtually addicted to the stuff and can have chinese takeaways and pringles and other snack foods with msg in).

I read somewhere that there is a chemical in both marzipan and brussels sprouts that only people with super sensitive taste buds can detect, apparently if you don't like the taste of either then it means your taste buds are more sensitive than usual. I like both so mine mustn't be great! Might be the same for cucumber, im not sure but just an idea!
