i think u can take paracetamol too to stop a temerature developing over night trish, check the piriton packet first. also, use some localised ointment like savlon on the bite! I feel for u as i get bad reactions too, was it a horsefly?

I had this the other week ~ it was agony! in fact, my foot & ankle are still tender to touch :o(

The chemist told me to use hydrocortisone cream which did help with the itching, as did a cool bath. I carried on with antihistamine & the hydrocortisone, and the itching subsided after about 3 days..nasty, I know.

Be careful it hasn't got infected. There's been an increase in infected bites lately (some blimmin mutant fly, I reckon) so definately go to the doctors is it lasts too long!

I don't feel them bite me either, Patricia. I never do, and I am always being bitten :o(

The sooner they sort out an immunisation the better!
Would calamine lotion help ?
Hi Patricia,

Saturday night just before retiring, my little toe (left foot) started to itch at the base. Awoke about an hour later and my god did it hurt, burning and swollen like a mini sausage! Put an ice pack on (under a sock), didn't sleep much cos of the throbbing pain.

Sunday morning couldn't walk, it was so painful, so rang NHS Direct - advised to take anti-hist. ibroprofen (anti-inflammatory), and ring back if it showed signs of spreading. Lucky it didn't, but got some anti-hist today from docs, who said it would "track" up my leg if it was spreading.

Told to keep it clean and dry, by the way.

Nothing else can be done, at least now it isn't so painful or swollen.
Mine is nothing like yours tho, so I very much sympathise with your plight, it must be agonising for you.
Hi PatriciaH, What a coincidence I was in the garden Saturday gone cutting the lawn and trimming the hedge, yesturday I was suddenly a ware my left ankle was itchy and stared to scratch it, there was a very small red mark where I had been bitten by " something ", today my ankle, foot and toe's has gradually got worse and has swollen up to the extent that can't hardly walk on it, its hot, itchy and very painful. The bite mark is now the size of a pea, I have applied Hydrocortisone cream but I have no antihistamine in the house.

The same thing happened to me last year on my other ankle and I ended up going to the docters for treatment, and I still have the mark.

Hope you feel better soon my sympathies go out to you as I am in same boat " so to speak " as it makes you feel really down.

Bye for now, Love cat woman X X X :-(
I get bitten all the time {no jokes please}.

PatriciaH, take Piriton & rub some Calamine & glycerin cream {boots make} onto the affected areas, that should do the trick, when you apply the cream to the affected areas the cream works within 5 mintues, you can feel the affected area going cold, its highly recomended, lets hope it works for you
