I moved house last September and after registering with our new GP , my husband and I were required to have a medical with the practice nurse before we could make any appointments at the surgery. We had to give her a rundown of our previous ailments , allergies etc which I couldn't understand because our medical files were in the process of being transferred from our previous surgery. Although your new surgery will request your notes from your previous GP , you will probably be required to fill out forms for every member of your family whom you intend to register and you should bear in mind that it is up to your new GP whether they will accept you at their practice. Although you choose them , your new surgery can say yes or no but let's face it , they are not really going to turn you down are they ? Only in exceptional circumstances I would reckon.
