I kid you not! I was 14 and walking to school one morning through the health centre carpark and I heard what I thought was a kitten. After looking round for it, I found him (he was 8 days old) by the side of the health centre in a moses basket.
I took him inside, luckily it was about 8.30 and people were inside the building, and yep I had my 15 minutes of fame, my piccy was in the local paper the following week.
the good news is that apparently he was reunited with his mum several days after me finding him.
A wallet with 190 in cash in it. Sadly, being the utterly stupid honest person that I am, I handed it in to the police station next door in a fit of complete madness. *sigh*......
Beat maximo by a tenner ... I found a nice leather wallet with 200, an unused Disney phonecard, a list of Indian food suppliers, and a photo of 2 indian kids ... so I thought I would hand it in (for about 2 milliseconds) ... still got the phonecard ... the cash got me a new pair of Doc Martins plus some other bits ...
My theory ...if you're careless enough to lose 200 quid, you don't deserve to have it in the first place....
I thought that too, don't gte me wrong...but then, I haven't got a cheque book, so I sometimes have to walk around with my rent in cash in my handbag. Mind you, you'd probably have to use a hammer and chisel to separate it from my body, so not much chance of me losing it! The police said it was probably dole money, so all in all, broke as I am, the person who lost it is probably worse off than me....Ach well, I'll never know now, will I !
in 1966 I found a florin on the pavement, i bought lots of Man From Uncle cards with it, the memory has always stayed with me, it's not the luckiest i have ever been, but I felt so rich! Our pocket money then was 6d every Saturday afternoon. I had found it on the walk to school, and for years afterwards i always looked in the same place, incase it happened again lol
Found a gold watch and a gold wedding ring on a beach in Skiathos. Handed them into police. The ring looked new,I bet she was popular with her husband. Don't know if they found their way back to owner though
A few years ago I was standing waiting to be served at my local when I looked down and found a 20 note on the floor ! My friend and I got a few vodka & cokes with that !
...at work I have found loads of stuff including...a video camera, a neatly folded blank cheque...a purse with 500 and 7 credit cards ...I handed the cheque in at the bank and we reported the purse to the police, the woman was very grateful and wanted to give us a reward (10%..!!!)...but our boss said we were not allowed!...so she bought us a tin of celebrations instead...hmph... but the funniest thing was last friday when someone left some err pornographic photos in the developing machine! ha we usualy pin the photos left behid onto the front of the machine....we didn't this time....
when i was a little kid, me and a friend of mine were playing under a railroad bridge here in NY and we found a bank bag full of assorted coins (quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies) there was a few hundred dollars worth. The bag was all rotten as if it had been there for years. We rode our bikes home with every pocket we had so full of this money that it was spilling out of our pockets all the way home.
50 in a cash-bag, floating in a puddle. I was soaked through on a really miserable rainy saturday morning on my paper round, when I was 14. That was amazing at the time!
