The (medical) jury is still out on this one. There are the cancer risks associated with smoking tobacco, usually a component of the average joint, so that's a factor. Doctors are undecided as to whether long-term effects - memory loss, arthritis, and so on, are caused directly by injestion of marijuana, or wether they are a a bogie created by the right-wing media who hate to see anyone having a good time. I take no personal stand on the issue - I'm a live-and-let-live person, but it has to be better for you, and certainly more aestehtically pleasing to watch, than the ingestion of coke.

As my learned fiend advises, since my answer yesterday, an emiment medical expert has advised of research linking prolong smoking with schizophrenia and severe depression, with the risks increased by up to 400%. The general thinking is that this is not conclusive proof, so the argument rolls (ahem!) on.
Learned fiend? Surely a typo Mr hughes..
