Following on from violetblue's post http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/Body-and-Soul/Q uestion271230.html, would you prefer there to be more cafe's? I know i would and no, not the starbucks! but nice relaxing coffee houses, is that just me getting older (i'm 25) or are most people fed up with so many pubs full of drunk underage kids and no decent place to relax and meet up with friends?

Hi splurge, yes, yes to your question! I love old fashioned cafes that don't charge you the earth, it's a bit of an obsession of mine. I'll be looking at these replies with interest, as it would seem that there is indeed a demand but it isn't being met so far.

Not just me getting old then!
Where i live we only have pubs and the occasional cake shop/cafe that is full of oap's - not too tempting!
Really need more coffee houses like they have in other countries in Europe, i recently went to Paris and loved the selection of coffee houses, everyone was so relaxed and there was just no need for loud drunk behaviour.
I do agree actually, there are alot of empty little shops that could be used but i think there is alot involved health and safety wise and facilities wise, I don't like these little coffee corners they have in dept stores where everyone walks past and stares at u sitting having a cofee
I think I would like the best of both worlds...Licensed coffee houses where you sit and have a coffee/tea or maybe a beer as well if you wish, but where the atmosphere is more on cafe lines than pub lines, again, like plenty of places abroad
Going back, late 50s,early 60s, there were Coffee Bars all over the place, a very civilised time, live music, some were licenced, a lot of famous singers originated from these places,

Adam Faith, Cliff Richard etc.

When I retire, I'm going to open one up, based on the lines of those ones.
You're right, Lonnie, I remember them (those of the 60s) as a child. Let me know when you open your caf!
I'd like to see more too, I don't think age has anything to do with it tho, I think there would be a surprising amount of youngsters (I must be old to use that term) who would use these coffee houses too.
To answer Lore, providing the musics there, hopefully, quite a lot.

Lonnie, that is a lovely idea! I love the idea of a coffee house with live music. I think we would all be your first customers if you opened a place!!!!
Well, it looks like i'm getting enforced retirement soon, so if it comes off, i'll let you all know where it is.
