I'm worse I have a habit of suddenly shouting as I'm dropping off :-)
I hate that jumping. It always accompanies a vision of falling over. I have been known to kick when i do it
I was told its cause your blood pressure has fallen too quickly which is why you jump. I know that when you dream of falling or going down in a lift before you sleep its your blood pressure so maybe theres something in that.
just appologise to your wife, get up, pick your leg up from off of the floor and return to zedding away. I always do it! :oD
We jump sometimes as we are dropping to sleep, because when we are fully asleep we have an inbuilt mechanism that semi paralyses us to prevent us acting out our dream, when we are still drifting into sleep and dreamland this mechanism hasn't yet kicked in. There is also the problem for some people where it never kicks in, resulting in murders attacks on partners and other very strange behaviour.
my bf gets out of bed looking for things like tap washers!
the other night it was the light switch - he wanted to put it outside!! he was looking under the bed for it!
he once broke a window in his sleep didnt realise till he woke up and there was blood and glass everywhere!
he is also know to think there is someone in the house, walks downstairs in boxers woth belt in hand ready to tackle them, i went for a wee and he ses - did you check behind the shower curtain!!
NIGHTMARE!!
ratter where did you get that info ?
It's even better in meetings, particularly when a few people have been to the pub (not me, I'm teetotal).

I watch the lids drooping, the head nodding forward, then AARRGH !! - it suddenly jerks up.

Correct protocol is to act as though nothing has happened.
see, I'd have to point and harangue!
whiffy you are just too good to be true
ratter I have that sleep paralysis thing when my inbuilt mechanism qwakes me up before it has kicked in so I do act out my dreams :-) Very funny sometimes. I've had fights with octopuses coming out my bedroom wall and held cats down under my duvet :-)
my mum and brother were both telling em they have sleep paralysis yesterday - stories they were telling me scared the crap out of me...!!!

I have a habit off jumping in my sleep too.

More recently i've TWICE "apparently" tried to poke my boyfriend in the eye whilst we've been asleep. First time i woke up and he started shouting at me and i was like "why u shouting at me for!!!???" and he was like "You just poked me in my eye!!"...

Plop !!!
Crete, got the info from watching a programme on sleep disorders, I was interested as I suffer from sleep Apnea, just been in hospital for a sleep study.
Mr P twitches like a goodun ~ far more than I do. Sometimes he does the full body jerk which freaks me out. None more so than the time he sat bolt upright in bed and said rather loudly

''What's that you want...2 litres?'' we have never worked out why he said that..
