I am considering hypnotherapy for my (immense) fear of flying. I mostly avoid planes, and take tranquilizers when I have to use them. I have flown a lot and didn't used to be afraid, I'd love to take back some control. My life feels miniscule at the moment.
Just wondering if any body had any advice or experience? Thanks in advance.

Used hypnotherapy (not for flying though) and had superb results with it ... 100% success.
my friend tryed hpno to help her lose weight, it did ,nt do much good but dont let it detter you has i have heard good reports it helping people stop smoking
is it fear of being off the ground and in flight you have, or far of being trapped in a restricted space?
I was always a bit wary of claims of hypnotherapy..BUT.. a few years ago I did go for hypnosis and it worked. I was prepared to sit there , listen to all the palaver and say well?..but I did go under, afterwards I felt very relaxed and later on felt the effects whenever I sat down to eat. Oh as you will have gathered it was to help me loose some weight. Moving on some years 2004 I went to someone else to help with a fear of water (boats etc) felt so cold couldn't even get comfortable paid 40. and left. weeks later another chap and it worked.....so.. YES it can work.

Hope you are one of the lucky ones...Good Luck.
Apart from a few quid eh?
Cynic ....lol ....

dot.hawkes, it's a general fear. i'm not really scared of dying, and not really claustrophobic, i think it's to do with the lack of control and a TOTALLY over-active imagination! i am constantly waiting to hear the engines stop, or a wing start to crack etc, and vividly see us all plunging to the ground! it could be a fear of fear! thanks for all of your replies so far, i'm fairly convinced i will try hypnosis. anything i should look for when choosing a hypnotist....?
I'm a hypnotherapist and what I can tell you is that hyno is extremely good for some things and not for others. I have good success rates for smoking and anxiety disorders, but have long since given up offering weight control hypno due to poor success rates - as have many of my therapist friends in the guild. Now on to flying, yes I have seen a large number of clients for fear of flying and more or less without exception they have reported back a much more relaxed and calm journey than in previous flights. Hypnosis is a very good way to ease panic attacks and feelings of anxiety in almost any circumstance in life e.g. flying, crowds, heights etc. Always ensure you check out your hynotherapists qualifications - they should at the very least have a diploma in Clinical Hypnosis or hypnotherapy. I wish you all the best kittenlittle. Doll xx
I am never ever going to fly again. Flying is the most horrible experience of my life. I sat in the plane and felt as if I was waiting for inevitable death. When we flew over the mountains I was so frightened that I buried my head in my partner's chest and felt as if I was trying to breathe in a vaccuum. I am absolutely sure that hyponotherapy could not help me because I know in my heart that flying is totally wrong for humans. I am sure that if I was drugged and woke up inside a flying plane I would die.
Just go by boat, train or car, or even better still walk or bike because then you arent destroying the ecosystem.
