I'm having a Cartilage operation on Thursday, the second, and I have to keep away from my daughter, (she's Autistic), because sh won't leave me alone, i'm the one who normally does things with her, play games, walks, rides etc.

My wife has booked me for nine days into a hotel, half board, but she did this without consulting me, only told me after she'd done it,

I know she's done this with the best of intentions, but i'm sorry, I do resent not being consulted beforehand.

Do you think i'm being unreasonable and a Grump, as she says, or am I right to feel this way.

What do you think?.

Hi Lonnie,

Firstly,I am glad you are getting repaired after all this time,

Looking at it as an outsider, I can see your point, But I think your wife has done the right thing, if you don't get the rest you need straight away, it will take ages for you to recover, it will also give your wife time on her own with your daughter, and in just over a weeks time you will be feeling better, and can spend as long as you want with your daughter, If she had suggested it,would you have agreed ? she is only thinking of you isn't she, it will be hard, but I think for the best,

Hope the op goes well, and you are up and running soon,
Good luck Lonnie, and a hug for your lovely daughter, Ray

Well, reading your answers, I think maybe I have turned into an old Grump,

Wardy, normally there would be respite, she gets twenty eight nights a year, but this was short notice, in order to save my job, i'm going private, and the respite place is fully booked, and she is to difficult for shared care.

Boo, thanks for that, your right, absolutely.

Ray, as usual, you've got it spot on, and sh's had your hug. regards to the family.
be well lonnie
I agree with Ray Lonnie, you sound like a wonderful dad, i have to say but you do need a proper recovery from this op otherwise it will set you back and leave you unable to be there for you daughter for even longer. Also, your wife and daughter will enjoy their quality time together.

I can see why you would like to have been asked but i think her doing that off her own back was a really lovely thought.
Maybe she just thought the break would do you good as well. Lets face it, its not easy bringing up and autistic child so make the most of it and look forward to when your feeling 100% again. best of luck for your op X
What is it with ray and hugging peoples daughters?
you'd be even more grumpy if she jumps on your lap or something while its still sore...
What are you insinuating LittleBishop ? I have Been chatting to Lonnie on here for ages, he is the only person on here I say that to, Have you got a problem with that ?

Please Clarify what you mean !!!!
Just that you must be close, uncle or other relative?
Lonnie is a friend of Rays, that is all LittleBishop
I class Lonnie as a friend, that is all there is to it, he is a very caring dad who makes a very difficult task for some look easy

First, i'd like to say, as i've already said, Ray was spot on, I belong to the Railway Convalescence Home, but they were full, Mrs L did suggest what she's done, but thinking of the money, I said no, but she did it anyway. Once again Ray, spot on.

crete, Thanks very much for that thought.

Julie, you've near enough voiced what my wife said, and to you also, thanks very much, I suppose I should say a big thanks to all of you, i'm not grumping anymore.

joko. thats what happened last time, not on my lap, but when we play computer games, (hand to eye co-ordination), she has a habit of resting her leg over mine, so it just may be one of the factors why it didn't heal.

In A Pickle, thats really nice of you to say that, yes, i'll post when I get back, actually going on Friday.

LittleBishop, Why on earth did you come up with that, if someone is friendly enough to pass on hugs and kisses to my daughter, they are gratefully recieved, and if we ever do meet Ray, I would gladly let him hug and kiss her for real, he is a true gent.
Hi Lonnie ..just spotted your post and want to wish you all the best for your op and a speedy recovery.
Do take the time to rest up and let the knee heal...a good idea from your wife I think ..then you will be fit and well to look after your daughter again......and frighten the people in Q&P !!!
Take care ....
Shaney.
it was quite a thoughtful thing for your wife to do & she probably thought you would be really pleased. (if it was the other way around, would you perhaps do the same for her?). let her look after you for a while & be thankful you have such a caring partner who will still put you first every now & again. i bet she feels really bad now.a) for upsetting you & b) because its kind of rained on her parade!
go & tel her you did not mean to be so grumpy & that you appreciate her sacrifice & think she's lovely for doing it for you.
Lonnie, Get well soon my friend and that's just the sort of thing my own wife would have done with all the love in the world meant. Just relax and enjoy your recuperation.

Thanks very much Shaney, muppeteer and nox, I feel quite ashamed now at my behaviour when she told me, tomorrow it'll be a big bunch of flowers, and when I get back, a first class meal in a top restaurant.
