Why do people impersonate others ?
53 Answers
I am really interested in this, both in cyberland and in real life.
If you are impersonated, is it because you are popular and envied and the impersonator wishes to grab a small share of your sunlight ? Is it because you are unpopular and people wish to run you further down ? Is it just a bit of a laugh ?
Eddie Izzard impersonates James Mason and Sean Connery, regularly, immaculately and hilariously.
So, who and why ?

Some one wishing to hurt someone might employ impersonation to embarrass the 'victim' via over acted mockery or effective misrepresentation.
Others may identify with the person in question so much that they make an effort to actually take on board there traits themselves.
Izzard happens to almost sound like Mason anyway so it's an easy one to do i guess, his motive would be to entertain.
