He should maybe only use Dove hand wash (non soap) and apply Dermovate when skin is dry, and then perhaps invest in some 100% cotton gardening gloves.
If he really wants to get to the bottom of it he could do a detox. It may eczema which is being aggravated by wheat or dairy intolerance, but I think it is more likely something to do with his job, since it is only affecting his hands.

He could give Diprobase a try..brilliant stuff for all sorts of skin complaints.Another AB user recommended it to me and it is absolutely brilliant .You can buy it over the counter at any chemist. It's an emollient cream that forms a barrier and counteracts infection.
It cured my spud peelers thumbs and various other itchy patches of dry skin and keeps the skin soft and moisturised. You can get a tube or a pump bottle of it.

Hi, I agree the secret is to keep your skin well moisturised. I suffer from terrible eczema on my hands and I wear rubber gloves everytime my hands are going to come into contact with plants/household detergents etc.
Antihistimenes may also help, also dermovate is amazing, it can clear my skin up in no time, however you also need to work on the cause of this problem. I had allergy tests recently and it is amazing what my skin is allergic to.
Buy some nice old plain moisturiser though, no scent in it and use that several times a day to stop your skin drying out, also please see the doctor.
