Weigh limits for manual handling in the work place.

Can anyone tell me is there a set weight limit not to be exceeded whilst manually loading equipment in the workplace? Just I work in Michelin tyres and I manufacture a produce known to us as felt. This product is sheet rubber which when packed is log shaped and weighs on average 39.5kg. I then have to lift this above my head onto a pallet one every six minutes maybe up to 30 consectutive times and its back breaking. Any info will be much appreciated. Thankyou Noel

it should have been covered in your health and safety training before u started the job,

and lifting anything above your head is against the health and safety rules thehandbook you should have displayed on you staff notice board and u should have signed a form to say you have covered the topic.

You are your own Safety Officer ... if you think it's too heavy, then it is.

I always tell my staff to kick something, if it moves they can lift it, if it doesn't, break it down or get help. ( I don't mean by that they kick it hard to that they break toes!!!!!!!) damn why did I say that, my toes are burning again!!!!!!!!!!!

the rule of thumb at work is anything over 32 lbs is deemed as a '2 person lift' I feel for you noel, I worked in a wholesale tyre warehouse and we hand loaded and unloaded around 5000 tyres a day. I worked there for 10 years!
