If british gas put something in the gas to make it smell like gas, why do they put something in that smells like gas?

The gas that comes in to your house courtesy of /British Gas has no or little smell in its natural state so your percetpion of a gas smell is just that - what you think of as a gas smell is actually a strong smelling but harmless additive. Its designed to be smelled when theres even a tiny leak. Slight design fault here though - what about those poeple who have no or little sense of smell ? They should add color too.
