As emollients, steroid creams and Chinese herbal drinks are not effective in treating my teenage friend's severe eczema, could anybody suggest some alternative remedy that has worked for them.
I used to suffer badly as kid, right up to my 20's; Infact I still have trouble if I get too close to trees and lush vegitation. I don't have a cure, but I can reccommend plenty of Baths in salty water. Although it dosn't get rid of Eczema it lessens the swelling and itching. I'm told that drinking Olive oil is a cure, but can't say it helped me much.
I would suggest a food allergy test, I suddenly developed it,went to a health shop for a test and they said I had an allergic reaction to Dairy products, especially cheese, which I love, but I stopped eating it and cut back on milk etc, after a couple of months it went, I have been told I can now eat cheese again but to stop if it re-appears,just an idea, might be worth a try. Assuming you are in the UK can I recommend Potters Eczema Oinment I used it on my duahgter. I found that steroid cream worked for a while then when you stopped using it the ezcema returned. Potters ointment is non habit forming comes in a small pot but then you don't need much you can get it from herbalist shops if they don't have it in stock they will order it for you.
Omega 3 - oily fish, seeds and nuts. There are also omega 3 supplements available called Efalex. There is also a company who make products with olive oil that my friend swears by the website is

I am surprised about the Chinese medicine though, that cured my sons eczema when he was a baby. The best Doc for that is in Brighton.
