I got to know a tramp (well a wino) quite well,I met him when I was going home, near Waterloo In London, two lads were beating him, I grabbed my hammer from my toolbox and saw them off, anyway I took the old boy for a cuppa, he was very educated, we talked for ages,it turned out he had been a stockbroker, but lost his family, which turned him to drink, then he lost everything else including self respect, I saw him a few times after and he allways raised his dirty old hat to me, I often wonder what happened to him. There but for the grace of god ruge, it really is, Ray

there used to be one in newcastle (dont know if he's still about) who apparently used to be a copper. he must have money in the bank as he always used to have a good walkman on and he'd stroll into maccy d's and get loads of bait and only drank decent booze!!
then you'd see him rifling bins and kipping in doorways. i always wanted to have a chat to find out what the score was.

There is a very old lady (must be about 75-80) i have seen walking the streets of Crewe. U always see her after midnight hobbling along. She gets round all over the town, but is always in her torn and dirty clothes. I have often wondered where she sleeps and how she got to be homeless. the first time i saw her was in tesco (24hr one), she only have a reduced 5p roll in her basket. As i was leaving she was going back into the store with a trolly - but it was obvious she couldnt afford anything - she just wanted to get out of the cold. I would like to speak to her and give her a good meal and help her out anyway i could - but she looks so indepandant and i dont want to get shouted at if i upset her by offering to help - do you know what i mean.
I always think that she was shelters and homes that these people could go to for help, why doesnt she get help from the government - i mean she must be entitled to a pension etc. Maybe its just her way of life - what she is used to, maybe she doesnt want peoples pity or help - i dont know, by i often think of her when i see her walking down to cold dark streets at night, in her tatty clothes with holes in. Really upsets me that an old lady (maybe someones gran) is so alone in this world.
