Now crossing the road....there's an extreme sport!!!!!

I have heard of far too many fatal and tragic occurrences over the years divegirl, they don't always make headline news or get turned into a film, usually, as you say, it is the incompetent buddy that either dies or gets you killed. It is worrying that so many holiday makers decide to give it a go and abroard you just cannot trust the equipment or the skill of the local dive teams.
I have to say I'm sorry he died, however he treated wildlife as a form of entertainment rather than with the respect it deserved and I found his methods to be intrusive to the wildlife he studied, as did many other people who levelled critisism a him for this, plus that stupid stunt with his newborn really ticked me off, so I didn't really rate him as a serious naturalist. Sorry that he died though, but I'll almost bet my bottom dollar that he was cornering, poking and prodding at the thing that killed him whilst it was trying to avoid him like the plague.
Totally agree Dot, I gained my PADI and subsequent qualifications here in the good old UK and it's relatively freezing temperatures, and I do worry about people and their qualifications when they are completed in warm waters in 3 days.... Diving is all down to experience, and though I hate to admit it, even after 5 years I would still not call myself a tottally competant diver[or speller....lol]. On the other hand, diving is a phenomenal experience to undertake and I would recommend it to anyone under the right supervision...... not like my last dive! Take me + a mad russian + a Puffer fish.... Sacre bleu!!! lol

i like a joke 4getmenot but i cant stand those sort of things. they are in very bad taste seeing as 2 very young children have lost their daddy. I hope i dont get any but no doubt, i will. It is very sad news and he did so much for wildlife conservation. A top bloke with a real understanding of animals and total respect for them too.
