Yep.

Think about it- you're pushing 'down there' and what happens naturally when you push?

Midwives (luckily) don't bat an eye, and quickly clean you up and you carry on!
I did but was in so much pain I didn't care nor did anyone else for that matter. It was just cleaned up without a second thought.
Also I like your name ella rose, its very pretty.
I had an epidural and couldn't really tell but the midwife was "tidying" up down there so I assume I did! She didn't bat and eyelid and nor did we - we were too busy getting a baby out!
I didnt with either of mine, didnt even pee myself. Yay!! The thought of it horrified me but it is very very normal.
i didnt , then again I had 4 sections lol
i did on all 3 but i didn't know until i was told later, my friend did and she'd had a very spicey curry that night i want go into details!
Most women do..and don't even know about it at the time, as the midwife is usually discreet ;o)
thanks, that's just put me off ever having kids!
Why? it's only a bit of poo!
Why do you think there's always a fishing net at a water birth? Its not to catch the baby!
I did with my second and was mortified. The widwife just said not to worry. Reading all these replies, I feel better now that I know I was not the only one.
It happened to my sister! They told her to push and instead of the babies head she had a pile of you know what.

Didnt happen to me though the three times I gave birth, because I made sure I went before.
Hate to tell you this girls....but I have three friends training to be midwives and they told me that near on every woman does.....the midwife just doesn't tell them.....saves on embaressment!!!!!!

Lisa
I reckon a lot of people would say they didn't, as they didn't know about it..most midwives would clear it up without saying a word. I know of women who didn't feel it at the time.

I don't think I did with my first baby, although it wasn't something I looked for. I know I definately did with my third as I was on all fours and knelt in it...LOL.
lol@ susy strawb- the worry of pooing is the LEAST of your worries and cares at the time!

And believe it or not the end product (the baby, not the poo-lol) is all worth it :-)
the poo is gonna come out with or without having a baby...

difference is you dont have to bother cleaning it up cos youve got someone to do it for ya....

lol
When my babies were born ( they are now in their thirties) it was common practice to give women an enema as soon as labour began. This was a form of torture - the labour pains mixed with the need to hold the soapy fluid for the required length of time was excruciating. It made things easier for the midwife who didn't have to clean up any mess during the birth - but thankfully the practice of enemas for women in labour has been stopped. They also used to shave women's entire pubic region before the birth - ok until it started to grow back and the itch became unbearable - and it always seemed to start in the middle of shopping!!
