Has anyone met their soul mate via a on line date site. And if so, which site did they use?

Except fro the 18 that were sadly killed in Vietnam, we found all but two! It was amazing. An added bonus for me was that I was contacted by a lovely man who lived about an hour away from me. He was interested in art and I am an amateur artist and had just had my first exhibition. So, we met in a safe environment, with nothing other on our minds than two art-minded people meeting to visit an exhibition. He was very different from any other man I had met, a country man with a great sense of humor, an intelligent mind and a heart of gold. We have been together for over a year and a half now and have never fallen out about anything. We don't always agree with each other's views, but that doesn't seem to matter to either of us. We are both very easy going characters and I love him to bits! I wouldn't trade him in for anyone else ... ever! So in answer to your question ... there is nothing wrong with meeting someone on the Internet as long as you are very careful and sensible. Maybe the fact that I was not actually looking to find someone as a partner helped. You can clearly state on the site that you are only looking to find friends, if that suits your search. Good luck!.
my friend went on friends reunited dating and didnt think much of it. there were about 30 women local to him and you have to send about a squillion messages to get 1 back. Its not like he's a bad looking chap either. He's currently on Match.com, theres a few more members but still the send/receive ratio is very poor. Its not like he's sending smutty or illiterate messages either.
I'd try Match, may be a bit more expensive than some of the others but the best one I've found so far. I'm on Friends Reunited Dating as well (which is a lot cheaper) but much prefer Match, you have far better profiles and better space for pictures and the messaging system is a lot simpler and easier to use.
Trouble is the women are far outweighed by the men. Having spoken to a number of guys on there and they don't get anywhere near the number of hits and messages that the girls do (in fact the numbers can be quite scary).
I feel really bad but you do have to be a bit ruthless as you get so many messages, I've had over 3000 views in just a couple of months and can quite often have up to 21 messages and winks every day! It makes it very hard to reply to everyone and I know a lot of guys get disheartened as they don't realise how different it is for girls on there.
I'd definitely put a picture (you can put up to 21 on Match) on as many users ignore profiles without them. Make it a good but recent one which shows you clearly, the ones which always catch my eye tend to be ones of people on holiday or in groups and such but I'd keep the main one a nice clear shot of you. I know it sounds shallow but it's true.
Be honest as well and personal messages work far better than winks or messages that look like they just sent it to half the girls on the site in hope of a response. Are you on MSN? I tend to get chatting to people on there for a bit before I decide whether or not to meet up. I believe in meeting sooner rather than later as it's quite often the case that the click you have with someone online is not the same when you meet them.

Be careful as well, I've been very lucky, only one date on which I felt uncomfortable but it wasn't that bad, I've heard some right horror stories though, especially from the guys and some sites do have a bit of a reputation for people who are only after one thing. Always follow the security advice, meet in a public place, let people know where you are going, call people to let them know you're ok, have an escape plan if needed etc...
I've not found my soulmate yet but have had some lovely dates and made some very very good friends.
I posted a similar question on Saturday so you could check that out as got some lovely answers :)
Hope this helps. Let us know how you get on.

Thanks for all your replies. I have never been on a on line dating site. And would be afraid to put my picture on in case anyone I knew locally would spot me, and think I was a really Billy no mates. I work in a place full of women. So no chance of meeting anyone there!
Will keep you posted if I have any luck. But sort of giving up finding love :(
