Just a few tips though - Don't speak to the room as in look out over the people's heads. Speak clearly to the people in the room, try not to race through your speech. Be sure you know what you are talking about and if you get stuck, don't panic, make light of it and find your way back. My dad, who was a singer and actor once said to me, - if you get really nervous and are afraid of the many people in the audience, just imagine them naked ... that should make you smile (or even laugh aloud!) and ease the tension a bit'. My dad, who always got a nervous tummy before going on stage, was right! Trouble for him was, in those days when actors walked on stage they often couldn't actually see the audience due to the lighting. So, a good imagination came in hand! Best wishes, hope it all turns out well for you.
I suppose it depends a little on what type of event it is... business social or entertainment.
1.Know your lines/subject.
2.If its a business type presentation.. tell them what you are going to present, present, then tell them what the presentation was about.
3. Always try to slow down the pattern of your speech somewhat... most people tend to gabble.Smile as well where appropriate.
4.Look around the room, and make eye contact with someone on the left, someone on the right, someone in the centre etc. Helps to diminish the size of the audience somewhat, and can give you feedback as to how well the presentation is going.
5. Use body language... use your hands to emphasize your points.. dont stick them in your pocket or whatever.
6.KISS - Keep It Simple ,Stupid :)
