Why am I not crying?
3 Answers
Hi,
My partner and I broke up early last week (his decision) and although I am heartbroken, I have not shed a tear about it.
I feel all the horrible emotions like anyone else does, but haven't been able to cry about it at all.
Why is this the case? Is this normal?

Sometimes, when we are hit with something completely out of the blue we have a delayed reaction. This is particularly prevalent with the loss of a loved one where the actual bereavement can 'hit' up to years after the actual event.
If it isn't this then maybe your feelings for him were not as profound as you had thought.
There is no rule on how you should react so you wouldn't consider your reaction abnormal, just natural.

I was like that too when i split with my bf of 3 years (last year). I felt physically sore in my chest but didnt cry. As time passed I did cry a bit (when it really hit me that we weren't together any more) but not as much as I thought I would.
I would advise talking and talking about it to anyone that will listen - it really helped me!

Thank you Octavius, It did cross my mind that I may be in shock. I do love him, there's no doubt about that.
chazza, I feel physically sore too, I didn't tie the two together though. I'm my own worst enemy as I have never been able to show a 'weak' emotion to anyone and will not allow anyone to see me cry.
