ligamentitis? Any similar experiences?
4 Answers
My doctor's told me I have ligamentitis in my hip, I'm 28. I ran a half marathon in April and since then every time I run (on a running machine) I get a sever pain in my hip joint, which results in pain when I walk for the following few days. My doctor advised me to rest it, which I did for a month, yesterday I did a gentle 20 min running, it seems to have got worse, I am hobbling about today, and have a dull aching pain in my hip even when I am not walking. I understand that the pain is due to a lack of blood getting to the tendons in my hip. Does anyone have any similar experiences/suggestions for exercises to speed up my recovery?
My doctor only suggested rest and the usual "if it still hurts in a few months come back", would going to a physio help or a sports masseur?

I'm 37 (and three quarters!!) and have been walking two miles daily with a buggy for the last few months. I hadn't been able to get through the walk without limping. Two weeks ago I took a chance and went to see an accupuncturist and the following day I walked limp free for the first time! He was fantastic and went into all my medical history in more detail than any other professional I've met. My injury has been there a long time and therefore I need a little more work but you might see a full recovery more quickly. Its worth a try and - no its not painful! I live in Ireland, the first session was free and each subsequent one is 40. I thought is was a little miracle - my advice is to give it a go - what harm can it do?
Ligamentitis is literally 'inflamation of the ligament'. No exercise will 'speed up' recovery. It is in short a strain. Your hip area and use of joint can be affected over the long term if improperly cared for. Given adequate time and rest, it will heal. Chronic overuse can also cause strain as well as other, such as injury or improper warming up. RICE is usually advised. Rest - Ice - Compress - Elevate(of course compression is not really applicable for hip).
