Symptoms are itchy bottom, sometimes blood when doing a poo, sometimes mucus, if external then a little lump will be felt, and there can be excruiating pain when having a poo.
As netibiza says, and Its often caused by, and made worse by constipation. its not usually a big deal, you can get cream over the shelf in the chemist and also worth a visit to the Doctor.
Yes, sometimes to cure constipation you may have to use a cream or suppository to loosen the "plug" if you'll excuse me being graphic.

feels like stools having to pass a razor blade. ouch!! have got some anusol cream just need to remember to use!!

thanks for replyingx
There is more than one recognised spelling of this problem ... this may help you to look at a number of online references -

The cream I am thinking of is applied to the hemorrhoids to reduce swelling, I think its a cortisone cream.
Make sure you eat more fibre (not so much bran but more fruit & veg) and drink lots of water. The wetter/softer the poo (sorry!) the easier to pass and less damage to your soft bits!
As has been said a good diet and lots of water, when I had them it felt like pooping out conker shells, hope your bum gets better soon

thanks for replying, never have to strain not constipated. drink about 6pints water a day???
Wow... I've had a little tiny lump there for ages, but didn't realise that it could be haemarroids! Will cream sort it back out even though its been there for ages? It doesn't hurt usually, but sometimes, it feels like it (er....) splits a tiny bit, which feels quite sharp.

???

I will drink lots more water now though!
Sometimes you can just poke them back yourself, it doesn't usually hurt and may stay there. Do not strain when on the loo.

Hi lynneylou,

Have just seen your other post on weight...if you are overweight, this can have an effect on haemorrhoids occurring, or make them worse...

Go to your GP because they can prescribe Anusol HC, which is much stronger (not avail over the counter) and will help shrink the piles much quicker...

A warm salt bath can ease the itchyness...
What people are discussing here also sounds like an anal fissure- blood, sometimes lots, razor sharp pain when pooing, then spasms a few minutes after. I thought I had piles again but turned out it was one of these and anusol wasn't doing nothing.

A doctor will soon tell you!
I agree mormess that anal fissures can cause bleeding - had one myself with an ulcer on it to boot!! The reason I mentioned Anusol HC was in relation to lynneylou's Q...
Its just sour grapes really!!
I agree with Ratter ... they're a right pain in the ass.
I made wine with the grapes !!!
Red wine, fluffymuff?? Lol
Or sangria (which means blood) :-)
