Who here has actually been to see a psychic? What did you think of the experience? Real or money-making con? There are charlatans out there...

I can't comment on all psychics/mediums abilities but the one I saw was exceptional. A member of my family had passed away two months before and I was looking for reassurance, comfort that they were o.k.
The facts given were incredibly accurate and he even spoke about other members of the family and a private conversation I had days before visiting the medium relating to the deceased.
I only gave yes or no answers to his visions and never once submitted any information prior to him speaking.
He got some facts wrong but hey, their only human.
For anyone who hasn't seen a psychic but would like to,it is best to learn and get reactions from others first about the person's ability.
I found the whole experience enlightening and gave some closure to the raw feelings of loss that everyone goes through when someone dear to you has passed away.
I have seen a few mediums and some have been obvious fakes but one in particular was absolutely brillient. She even gave me the name of my son on our first meeting and that really freaked me out but for a long time i visitied her every six months and each time she was able to accurately predict what was going to happen over the next 6 months. I never gave her any information, it was always one way and she was always spot on. You just have to find one that is right for you
I've been to see a medium, its just interesting night out but I would never believe it all and live my life around what I have been told.
I went and saw Derek Acorah, I wasn't sure about it especially when we he came to me first, but he gave me information that I had never told anyone including the fact that I had been seen breaking my glasses on the sofa and that I had blamed the cat which was true, he then went on to speak to a farmers daughter from aberfan and he was able to tell her the names of the cows in her fathers herd and the order they went into the milkers, he also said many he helps become christian and that is the route I have taken. I'm going to see Derek Acorah soon.
I used to go to a spiritual evening every week where we would have a different medium come to see us. Some things are spot on but I dont listen when they start spieling off names until you say yer I know a John. I havent actually been to it since my Nan died. I guess its just comforting to feel that these people are still about in some shape or form and I have had many messages that have made me smile.
And I have to say we paid no money, and were only asked to make a donation if we were are happy with the readings.
In truth I am very sceptical. However, I have an open mind and would like to spend a couple of hours with Colin Fry to see if there really is anything in what he says.

But no, have never done it before as my preconceptions (inner psychic ability!) tell me that it is mostly a con.
They are all charletans, they are clever cold readers, often good detectives and observers. If they where any good they would not be earning peanuts doing readings for nobodies they'd know the lottery numbers for christ sake!
They are a big bunch of rip off merchants, Derek Acohra, what can I say, you just need to watch is TV programmes to see he is a fake and not even a clever or convincing one, more like a comedy if you ask me!! Some are very convincing, some are very clever but they are all misguided unfortunately.
I suppose that unless you experience it then you really cant believe it.
The sister of a friend of mine went to see a psychic after her fiance was killed in a car accident.
The psychic said the usual stuff about how he was happy and settled and missed her etc etc but then she started to talk about the crash and said that he had broken his arm in the crash and was holding it up to show her.
The girlfriend stated that he hadnt broken his arm, only damage had been to his head and brain but the psychic insisted. They argued for a while and the girlfriend got upset and then the psychic held her arm up at the elbow with her other hand and started flopping her hand in a week way that would suggest that the wrist was broken or something.
The girlfriend broke down. That was the childish way her fiance had always waved since being young.
He was waving to her and the psychic interpretted it wrongly.
I do believe that there are true psychics out there but that the vast majority are fakes and work on body language and peoples need to receive messages from loved ones theyve lost.
I've never gone to see a psychic but I went to see an osteopath once while abroad (my back was hurting).... he held my wrist for a while, then asked me if I'd been involved in a car accident.... then asked if I'd ever had an operation and had trouble with the anaesthetic. Both were correct. It may be that he was just a good observer, as Loosehead suggests; it may well be that 'psychic ability' is simply very good and sensitive observation indeed. But I have to say I was extremely startled.
I ask this out of genuine curiosity and not to be or sound combative.

To all who have seen, or are contemplating seeing, pyschics. Why? What do you hope to gain from it? Someone already said they wanted to find out about a deceased relative. On the face of it I don't get why someone would want to do that, but I've read other posts by luna-tic that give me the context of their actions. Someone else said they get accurate predictions of what's going to happen every 6 months. Again, I truly don't understand why anyone would want to do that. So - dead relatives and the future. What other reasons?
Reassurance?

Finding that a loved one is (let's say) contacting you from beyond the grave so to speak, whether you or I believe it, provides some comfort to those people who do. It may help in enhancing their belief that there is an afterlife and those people we have lost are 'out there' somewhere trundling through the aether.

People go to see psychics for reassurance, for guidance (when there is a change in their life that they arent happy with and want to know hope to best cope)...many emotional reasons.
Very, very baffling to me. Even if I were 100% convinced that psychics were genuine, I can't think of a single reason for consulting one - certainly none of the reasons so far suggested. Yes, I know different people approach things differently but with this, I just don't get it.
There are many individual explanations for people wanting to visit a psychic. The first and most prominent would be a person's loved one or relative passing on. No it wont change the way they physically went but some may find comfort in knowing that the person gone is now at peace depending on the circumstances of their passing.I know someone who's father died physically, very painfully and the relative didn't understand whether that pain would be carried to the otherside. They wanted questions answered and the medium was the only one to give it to them.
I too do not see the sense of asking about future events otherwise it could pre-determine our actions or even make us a little paranoid but everybody has their reasons and if it is helpful to them, then so be it.
