I've never heard of this and I'm a hairdresser!!! Surely if women had their hair cut to show their ears then long hair would be out of the question and personally I think long hair with layers below the chin, a side parting and a side swept fringe is the most forgiving and flattering style for most face shapes and hair types. Instead of having my hair cut in diferent styles all the time (like I used to long ago!) if I now get bored I add some highlights or a panel of colour that just peeks through underneath the layers. I think that women should wear their hair in whatever fashion they feel most comfortable in and not how men would find them most attractive. Some women may be self conscious about their ears too- my mother and grandmother are, as well as many of my friends. I think it's up to the individual though, as hair style is a very personal thing.
