Depends. Do you smoke?
I was watching something on tv yesterday about barmaids in Dundee. They tested 100 of them before the smoking ban and then tested them sgain recently. All of them had improved lung capacity.
So, stay out of the pubs until the smoking ban comes in!
I think aerobic exercise helps with increasing lung capacity. I would ask my doc if I was you.

Following a medical for a new job I was told my lung function was poor for my age. I am healthy and no medical problem has been found to have caused it. I have tried exercise but become breathless during exercise and this has not improved even after 6 months. Doctor just says stick to walking!

I have never smoked.
Try swimming
Deep breaths, in through the nose, out through the mouth, parctice it until it becomes second nature, and your doing it without thinking, and a couple of times a day, time how long you can hold it in. That;ll do it.
There are devices on the market to strengthen your lungs by offering resistance to your breathing and which can be adjusted. They cost from 20-40. What I do is to buy from the supermarket a packet of balloons. For a fraction of the price they do the same job.
