My youngest sister describes me as 'eating' books because of the speed I read at. It's just one of the biggest pleasures in life to me.
I'm not sure about your opinion on kids reading more making them less likely to become little thugs when they get older.... maybe, but surely it would depend on what they were reading? I wouldn't say naive, I think it's a nice idea, just not sure it would work.

I go to the library every week, I'm like CD, I'll red pretty much anything.
Mini Boo is also a library member and I get one book a week out for her which we read to death before getting another the following week. She's a member of the library's Book Crawl Club too, which basically means she gets a little sticker each time she gets a book out on a card and when the card's full, she gets lollipop and a certificate.
Not sure if more youngsters reading would help solve any of our social issues but it'd sure as hell help with their spelling and grammar!

I normally read every day on the train to and from work. If a book's real good I can get through it in a week. I read anything and everything. I think encouraging kids to read is really important. My 4 year old nephew can't go to bed without being read to, he adores it. And he loves trips to the library to get more books to read. I don't know if it would help to solve the said problems but I think everyone should make time to sit down with a good book!!

I love books. I read every day, usually the only time i get to read is at night when i go to bed. Even if it's the early hours in the morning and i'm totally shattered i still have to read.
Ilove reading Stephen King and Dean Koontz.
My kids were brought up with books. I read to them everynight. i think i loved it just as much as they did!!!

I love to read too, and like China, find that people hide reading material from me. My Mum and sister were all big readers my Mum said on rainy school holidays the three of us would be in our bedrooms, nose in a book. She let me stay home from school once as I wanted to finish Wuthering Heights!
I read all sorts, about 3 to 4 books a week, it is my 'escape' from the stresses of the real world. My son is 8 and is also a big reader (my greatest achievement with him I feel!) and currently I'm reading all his books, the Alex Rider Books, The Thieves of Ostia series and enjoying some old favourites like Rosemary Sutcliff.
I read classics, biographies, historical novels, thrillers, crime and even the odd romance.

My mother used to call me the "bookworm ". I love reading and read my way through anything I can lay my hands on from classics like Dickens,Thackeray,The Brontes,Mrs Gaskell to obscure scandanavian authors. Modern day classics and up to the minute fiction.I still read Just William books for a laugh and being bilingual have read many books in another language and my love of literature in any shape or form inspired me to take an OU degree in just that. You can't beat a good book and get through about three books a week..
Ever since I was a kid, I've loved reading. At primary school, my teacher used to have to bring in extra books especially for me! I'm now a trainee English teacher so am constantly reading, sadly mostly for work rather than pleasure. I would much rather read a good book than watch TV or go on the computer.
