What exactly are you scared of?
Question Author
having my eyes tested again
is it the test that scares you, like people have phobias of dentists? or is it the thought of having to get stronger prescription and admit you eyes are getting worse that scares you?
You cant fill in forms but you can write this. Oh dear. why do you not like eye tests?
ummmm. Doesn't really make sense!
is there some other problem like the fear of talking to the people at the opticians ? or even going out, are you agrophobic ? you sound like you are in a bit of a state about something(the eye test) which you know you shouldn't be by what you say. It is like you are blowing the eye test problem out of proportion, so I know there must be something someone here can say to help you calm down and get out of this predicament .

its the eye test its the fact i have to have stronger glasses it is the same as people going to the dentist im not blind so i can still go on the computerwhich is a good job else i would go mad
Congratulations ''cazxx1''

Your the 1st person i know of whos scared to get there eyes tested, what is there to be scared of? Redcrx has pointed out the obvious reasons.

Think ''positive'' by getting your eyes tested, your be able to get the right prescription, then your be able to fill out your forms for a new job, i don't want to sound to harsh here, but this is very very trivial, get a grip, get up, be positive, and book to have your eyes tested
I can echo everyone's sentiments - go! Opticians are human beings and mega helpful. Book an appointment for during the week when it's quiet, and don't be ashamed at having to wear very strong specs. For a start, modern lenses don't have to be as thick as bottle-bottoms to be strong, and for another thing, opticians are there to deal with people who need strong lenses. If you didn't, then those pound specs would work OK for you, wouldn't they, and you wouldn't need to go?

By not going, you aren't doing yourself any favours and are probably making the situation worse by neglecting your eyesight.

What would you rather have - stronger than normal specs or a white stick?

Scared of an eye test ! Oh come on ...I have worn glasses since I was five and am now pushing bus pass time. You sit in a chair and a nice person tests your eyes with various lenses .I have had to have stronger and stronger glasses over the years ,it's no big deal. It's not like having a tooth pulled for goodness sake.
Think of all the poor devils in countries where they would give their eyes teeth for an eye test and a pair of specs.
Ask for contacts. My friend gets them on the NHS because her eyesight is so bad. Or see about laser eye surgery
Or is it the cost? IF SO I know a relative of mine got some from an internet site, varifocals, for half specsaver price. get the test , get the prescription, type it in, choose the frames, measure the arm length, pay by card and Bingo!!!

hi all, im not asking anyone to feel sorry for me and yes i will go.....i just thought i would come on here an get a bit of encouragement and like i said i know there are a lot of people worse off than me we are all scared of something mine is this thats all
I know what it can feel like to be scared of doing something. I am terrified of going to the dentists and the doctors even though I know they will help with my problems. I take Bach Rescue Remedy on my tongue to calm me down before I go and I have told them that I am scared so they take it steady and I can have a break at any time. Just be honest with them that you are scared and they can be ever so patient.

You will regret it if you dont go as you are already having problems with your sight. If you go blind because you are too scared to go you will regret it forever. If you feel uncomfortable going alone, get your husband to go with you. Mine has to come with me to the doctors and I feel much safer with him there.

Good luck...
Also cazxx1.. Dont let other people get you down. I have lots of phobias that people think are silly but it doesnt stop them from being real to me. I believe in you and think you can do this.. Just take it steady and even it if takes 4 or 5 trips there in order for you to feel comfortable enough to take the test, it does not matter.. It is you feeling comfortable that is important..

Good luck and let me know how you get on...
good advice from bagpuss there caz.
So its the test and the opticians youre scared of? Then fair enough. Its easy for some to say you must go and get over your phobia because you may go blind or its silly etc etc but its real enough to you.
Im the same with dentists and yes, i know i need to go but the thought alone terrifies me.
I hope you find the strength to go soon.

thanks pagpuss and red ....now i could go to the dentist and have all my teath out than get my eyes tested ..watch this space xxxx
There is no problem with normal eye sight tests for glasses. If it was a test for glaucoma it is a different matter. I had this done once and has put me off opticians for life. I was totally ignorant of the procedure but they give you a local anaesthetic in the eye and use this contraption to touch your eyes for pressure or something...I did not stay long to find out. So there is nothing to worry about for your test!
