Days gone by.
I'm talking about Hide and Seek in the park, The shop down the road,
Hopscotch, Donkey, skipping, handstands, stuck in the mud, football
with an old can, Dandy, Beano, Twinkle and Roly Poly, Hula Hoops,
Jumping the stream, building a swing from a tyre and a piece of rope
tied to a tree, (If you live in a town, the lampost), building
tree-houses, climbing up onto roofs. Tennis on the street, the smell of the sun and fresh cut grass.
Hubba Bubba bubble gum and 2p Flogs, macaroon bars and woppas, 3p
Refreshers and wham bars, superhero chewing gum, golf ball chewing gums
and liquorice whips, desperate dan and roy of the rovers, sherbit dips
and Mr.freezes, marathon bars and everlasting gobstoppers. An ice cream
cone on a warm summer night from the van that plays a tune chocolate or
vanilla or strawberry or maybe neopolitan
Wait ... Watching Saturday Morning cartoons .. short commercials,
Battle of the Planets, Road Runner, He-Man, Swapshop, and Why Don't
You?, Transformers, the Littlest Hobo and Lassie, Chucklevision, The
Muppet Show, MacGyver,
Scarecrow and Mrs King, Little House on the Prairie and Highway to Heaven, or staying up for Knight Rider and Magnum PI.
When around the corner seemed far away and going into town seemed like going somewhere.

My dad was trying to explain what a dripping (think he said that or was it dipping?) sarny was. I still don't know if he was kidding m or not ~ fat from a roasted joint spread on bread with salt and pepper? Think I'm going to be sick now

I grew up in the 50's and 60's,aagh wonderful days. Playing hop scotch, allie's,kick the tin, whip n top, swinging on a rope around the lampost, rat tat ginger. Hazy lazy days at the park in summertime. Then in my teens came The Beatle's and all the other liverpool groups. Doing the twist in our mini skirt's with "Twiggy type" eyelashes,we all looked like cows.lol. I remember my childhood and youth with fondness, kids knew how to play in those days.We respected our elder's and the police unlike the youth of today. I have a good life "Thank God" but I like to look back to my childhood. Daisy.
We didn't have chalk so when we marked out our hopscotch grid, we'd just pick up a chalky-looking stone and use that. Once, my sister picked up a likely stone - it turned out to be a piece of white dog poo. Yuk!
Any btw - the first house I remember us living in had no bathroom. We had a out door toilet and the bath was in the kitchen. And there was a nail-making workshop at the bottom of the garden - a real old-style Black Country cottage.

We used to get up to all sorts of trouble on building sites - how scary now to think of the danger, we were not even 10.
I used to like the chocolate tools you could take your pick from in the sweetshop; also the licorice selection. The pipe with the red tip was a classic!
Quick sand was a constant fear of mine in the 70s - I watched too many episodes of Tarzan I think.
I can remember (vaguely) admiring a lady in the loos, must have been early 70s. She had a tight red catsuit and an afro wig and huge sunglasses on!!! she must have looked like an extra from Shaft.

Yes, those were the days.......before the Nanny State interfered and Political Correctness reared it's ugly and oh-so-unnecessary head....When kids could be out in the fresh air all day, getting dirty, scrumping apples, not bothering about wearing the right label clothes and trainers, singing Baa Baa Black sheep, and watching Captain Pugwash without any idea what double entendre meant. Just happy to be children instead of small adults. Ah yes, those were the days.

im 19 and I remember most of that stuff...maybe the prices would be a little different though! I think a lot of adults look at "the youth of today" and dispair because they don't play out in streets anymore (can't because they're "threatening"), build tree houses/ tyre swings (can't because it's "vandalism") and when they try to go to the shop they see a sign saying "no more than two children at a time". At high school when kids used to still be kids they are now told that how they act in school will effect theyre whole future....the choices and results for GCSEs will mean make or break for getting a job and homework of two and a half hours a night doesnt leave much time for anything else-----no wonder kids are mini adults
