My daughters (aged 26, 22, 20, and 18) all still have advent calendars and stockings.
They were horrifed last year when I suggested they might be too old for them now.
Looks like Santa will have to carry on visiting them for a few more years yet..
its not sad at all... its part of the magic of christmas. I use my 9 year old grandaughter as an excuse to put out food for Santa and rudolph, but I'm sure we'll still do it when she no longer believes. Although if she's anything like her mum (see previous answer) then it might be a while.
................course the cats have one too, mine would be very upset if they didn't . They send prezzies to my neighbours 2 little scottie dogs that I take out too!
you all sound crazy, but lovely people, i would put a stocking up for santa, but cant find one big enough for all my prezzies. lol, my two teenagers have a chocolate advent calendar every christmas, they always write to santa asking for special gifts, but they like surprises too, i love christmas, especially if it snows, but thing is , where did all the carol singers go? they dont seem to come anymore.
Hi Waaii,
I go home to my parents at Christmas and we do the lot, stockings, advent calenders and i still leave out a can of diet coke and a mince pie for Santa and a carrot for Rudolph!! My Dad bless him, drinks half the coke, takes a bite out the mince pie and eats half the carrot and leaves cotton wool round the fire place(Santa's beard) and footprints. I still have difficulty sleeping the night before and get up at 5am and act like a complete child!!! I love it!!!! have i mentioned i am 29???!!!!
It sounds daft to a lot of people but its out family's tradition and i love it and will continue to do it until i have a family of my own.
We all have chocolate advent calenders but only the children get stockings now.
Rudolph gets a carrot and Santa gets a mince pie and a glass of milk. No alcohol because he's driving!
Never grow up, I have no intention of ever acting my age, my two lads will be over for Christmas and will hang stockings up,they are 31 & 28 they will also be over on the 1st dec for an advent calendar, I love it. xx
My daughter puts a stocking up for santa and I'm pleased to say I've finally convinced her that the reindeer prefer to be left Cadbury's Turkish Delight instead of the boring old carrots everyone leaves!! Yum!
My parents have the more "practical" approach to stockings in that it's for "useful" stuff. Like at Easter, they would buy us something useful rather then chocolate and ration any easter eggs we did have.
After a while they decided that we could only have them if they got one too so we usually always open them together, well whoever's there as we're not often all around. Saying that my brother would often stay in his room for his.
My brother was being a mardy sod a few years back and decided he didn't want one. My mother took this a sign not to me one either without asking me and was gutted on Christmas Day when I found out there wasn't one for me.
I still use the little santa sack which was bought for my first christmas :)
As regards cats, i often get birthday cards from them, often one from each!
