A new drug, which can extend the lifespan of worms, may work for humans in the future. The drug, which works by slowing down part of the ageing process, will be used in trials to help stroke and radiation burn victims first. The drug, which has no name yet, will be given as a tablet or injection for stroke victims, and a cream for radiotherapy patients. Any signs of extending life will be noted with interest.
There will never be a drug to extend life because, as The Guardian pointed out in a feature about longevity (http://www.guardian.co.uk/Archive/Article/0,4273,4 212892,00.html)
drug companies are based on money and no shareholders would be happy to die while years and years of research went on without them using their money!
