Eye problems

I seem to have become allergic to my own eyelashes. They grow for about six weeks then my eyelids start to prickle turn hard and red and then my eyelashes fall out in clumps. It is not blephritis and the eye hospital said (twice)'Your eyes are just like that'! Well, they weren't 'like that' for 40 years so what can it be? I haven't used any eye-make up for a couple of years now and the naked eye look is not attractive. Any ideas please?

I just googled this, and there are quite a few sites that cover this, its best if you look yourself, as only you know the exact symptoms.
