Hi you may have seen my quest for advice about my brother living with my elderly mother who is slowly dying. We took him to the GP yesterday who gave him less than an year to live he has now been hospitalised for 11 day detox!!!! His mother who is old skool and hard as nails and ive never seen her cry in the 11 yrs ive known her (im her daughter in law by the way) even at her husbands funeral is constantly in tears and breaking down, she dosnt want him back home.....anyone know what we do next in terms of getting him homed in a warden assisted place, weve been to the council but no luck yet...do we contact social services or someone else.... thanks would love to hear

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Hi tony, I can understand mum saying that it is obviously because she can't stand the pain of seeing him kill himself and she does not want it again, you need to talk to social services and they should be able to liaise with local council about warden controlled housing,if you get no sense from them, get onto citizens advice or the samaritans both of whom will help you, wish you good luck,hope he comes out and beats his addiction, Ray
Tony - don't know if you'll get this as I wasn't on AB yesterday so didn't see your post try Streetscene - your brother would have to be referred but they provide secondary care for recovering addicts. Basically means once gone through detox they go to one of their 'safe' house where they follow a very strict regime of healthy eating, taking responsibility for their own personal hygiene, cleaning room keeping house clean. It is run by recovred addicts and it's all about keeping people on track and easing them back into a normal life. They have a very high success rate.
