To help reduce the symptoms you can...

eat small frequent meals rather than fewer large meals
avoid bending over or lying down after a meal
avoid foods that seem to cause more severe symptoms such as spicy foods, coffee and possibly alcohol
stop smoking
lose excess weight if overweight
sleep propped up on plenty of pillows or with the head end of the bed raised 10 cm

Grains that ease hiatal hernias are barley and millet. Vegetables include artichoke, burdock, cabbage, dandelion, kohlrabi, sweet potatoes and winter squash. Culinary herbs are aloe vera, anise, arrowroot, asafetida, cumin, fennel, mint and parsley. The seaweed, agar is specifically healthful, as is green tea.

Cabbage is especially medicinal for tender tummies.
Get some Gaviscon I have it for mine.
try slippery elm from health food shops
Give your stomach some rest and don't eat unless you are really hungry, drinking fluids (soup etc) is ok though.
Also eat lots of yoghurt ... it's supposed to relieve stomach acidity. Avoid spicy / fried food, eggs and meat (harder to digest) for now and drink lots of 7up or coke.

These a classic symptoms of reflux you are describing.
Keep taking your capsules (lansoprazole I presume) and discuss with your GP next week.
Check the patient information leaflet in your capsule box as I am sure you will find one of the commonly listed side-effects is nausea.
