Why was my answer banned?

I just said my god was "a little fat Buddha" jokingly as I am an atheist.

Was that seriously offensive to somebody? if so they really need to get a life!!

and what if I did consider this to be my God, I think banning it is offensive in itself!!!

So is it so wrong to be a Buddhist!!

Its pathetic!!!

I wonder how long this answer will stay on here, before some narrow minded little jerk bans it!!

If you're an atheist how can you say whether your comment is offensive or not? You don't have a god to be offended about.

Well said RATTER!!! As you well know, I do follow Buddhist philosophy to quite an extent in my life and no I am not offended by what you wrote and I doubt any Buddhist would be.

So, to the powers that be ... please only ban when there is a really good reason. There have been many obscenely offensive postings, by people we all know on here, that have NOT been banned even though they should have been. So, why ban such an innocent one? If you ban perfectly good questions and answers you will put people off taking part in the AB in the first place!

I've had a lot banned lately, and for the most part the very tame ones that no-one could be offended about. Weirdness in the machine...

I agree that if a post is "grossly offensive to an average open minded person" for want of a better definition, it should be removed but almost anything metioning religion could be offensive to someone. If you believe in a god then you upset the atheists if you don't you upset the believers. Surely there must be a better reason to ban a post than just one person objecting. I disagree with many postings but I don't believe in censoring them.

I would never be offended just because someone believes in a God, no-matter what god it is!!

And I don't think that most believers in a God would be offended by someone just because they are an atheist.

I don't think I have upset anybody with my atheist views and if I have it was never intentional.

I see all your points. Yes, technically you could actually believe in what you said. In which case yes, banning it would be offensive to you. But in actual fact, you dont, so it isn't. Suppose you made a slur about my religion, I personally wouldn't mind that. But you don't know whether i'd mind or not, so should proceed cautiously. I don't know what a muslim, for example, will or won't find offensive. So I should be careful with all comments, because I don't want to offend.

The editors have a hard time in my opinion. If they leave something up, they might get criticised. The same applies if they delete something. You can't please everyone, you hope that each decision you make is for the best, and won't make you a "narrow minded jerk."

I'm not trying to have a go honestly, but I certainly wouldn't want to be an editor on this site! :)

Mikeyp. I'm not sure what you are getting at as you are going around in circles.

Lets make it clear, I have not made a slur against any religion, Buddha is not a God and Buddhism is not a religion it is a philosophy and a way of life but not a religion. I refer to Buddha as a little fat Buddha, that is not a slur its an honest comment and in no way meant to be insulting.

I live with my Buddhist partner and we do have a little fat Buddha sat on the dressing table, well actually he isnt that small, he is about 18" high.

If you are an atheist, why would you have a god anyway?
