when you found your family history what surprised you?

i found out that my great grandfather was landlord of 4 local pubs,that i have visited and didnt know.hic

3 things spring to mind.

1) I am related to Tommy Steele

2) My great, great, great great Grandfather owned 30000 acres of south-east England.

3) Although I have a French surname, no direct French relatives were found. Great.............

My mother paid a reputable geneologist and he did all the leg work. (think it costs about �2k for a full set)

Apparently, we were nobles, and dropped the particle in our family name in the 18th century (surprise surprise...lol).


Still waiting on the huge estate and peasant slaves tho....lol

my great great ( and maybe another great) uncle was Cecil Rhodes and my Grandads cousin was Wilson in Dads Army. However thats not me looking into it, that was a really interesting afternnon with family and slideshow ..brilliant and someone else was hung for stealing a sheep.

thats great that you know part of your history,listen to the old people in your family ,and take it in that you can pass on to your own children,and you will find that your children will enjoy listening,and pass your stories, on to there children.

My great great great (not sure how many greats) grandfather was hung, drawn and quartered for treason. He was then given a pardon and his picture hangs in Warwick castle.
