what is the optimum amnt of sleep a night?

It varies from person to person. Babies sleep most of the time, when not crying. Margaret Thatcher used to get by on four hours. Most people are probably in the 6-8 hours range.
It depends on the individual. I used to need 8 hours but now find I only need 6 hours and sometimes only 4
Technically it's the amount you have when you wake up naturally. If you average this out over a week or two that's your optimum.
