bleeding heavily

I missed my last period, I thought it was due to stress as I've had a lot going on but this morning I started bleeding heavily and I've gone through nearly 2 packs of ultra towels today. I've also had a lot of large clots (I'm sorry for being graphic but I'm just giving facts)

The blood is bright red and I'm hoping the doctor can fit me in tomorrow as I know something isn't right but can my gp tell if it's a miscarriage or will I have to go to the hospital? I know I may be just having a heavy period but as I say it doesn't feel right.

I'm not asking for medical advice, just want to put my mind at rest really.

You might find this helpful, from the symptoms you have described it could fit a misscarriage (I'm so sorry to be so blunt)...

http://hcd2.bupa.co.uk/fact_sheets/html/miscar riage.html

If you could be pregnant the I'd suggest either going straight to the hospital or ringing NHS Direct for their advice on (0845) 46 47.

I do hope it is something different, more than likely, but if it could be that then please get the help you need as soon as possible xxx

As the blood is bright red, don't panic.

The large clots are 'normal' too.

As is pain in the lower back and down the upper legs.

Hot water bottle, paracetamol, and rest.

And being blunt also, if it is a miscarriage, at this very early stage it would be because a pregnancy just is not viable.

Highly unlikely though.

:)
dont panic im like that every month big clots and very heavy i never used to be but the last three years this is how its been,i go through nearly three packets of night time towels in a week when im on.if your worried though go to the doctors as soon as you can take care hun xxxx

Thank you for all your replies, I've phoned the docs but the next appointment they can give me is next week, the family planning clinic is open tonight though do you think they would be able to do anything?

I had an inkling I may have been pregnant the past few weeks but with so much going on I put it to the back of my mind so I guess I'll just have to wait and see what the doc says next week unless I can get the family planning clinic to tell me what's wrong.

I looked on the nhs direct website, can't phone them as I used up my credit phoning docs but thank you for the number.

Thanks again.
as you are unable to see g p today amd in view you think you my have been pregnant, you could ring your local A E dept for advice,

Just got back from hospital and I have indeed suffered a miscarriage so I've been advised to just take things easy for a few days and I've been given a few leaflets to read etc and told to go back if I have any concerns. Got Hubby clucking around me now asking every 5 minutes if I'm ok, bless him.

we are a little sad at the loss but think it's probably for the best to happen now instead of further on. As my hubby says we are already blessed with 2 gorgeous babies, which is more than some women who have suffered a loss can say and we will try for another one when the time is right.

I would like to thank you all for your replies.
sandy, im glad you went to the hospital and very sorry to hear you have indeed had a miscarriage, please look after yourself and take care.

Thank you crete, I wouldn't have gone to the hospital but my hubby was starting to panic so he drove me. I kind of knew deep down what was happening and I guess I just needed time to convince myself it was real.

Thank you again. I'm going to lie down now before my hubby straps me to the bed, he seems to have taken the word 'rest' literally and is aghast when I move a muscle. I'll be glad when he's back in work tomorrow.
Awwwww,Im so sorry to hear your news.It must have been a shock for you.Just take it easy for a few days and let hubby fussy over you.x
I'm so so sorry hon, i've been there and know how awful it can be, keep any stuff they've given you as it can hit you hard and not necessarily straightaway (learnt from experience). Take their advice and get the rest you need, allow yourself to grieve and talk to someone if you need to.

I wish you, your wonderful sounding hubby and two beautiful babies well and will be thinking of you. If you need us then we're here, take care xxx
