requesting money or vouchers

We're getting married next year and are currently preparing the wedding invitations. We already live together and have everything we need so with regards to gifts, we don't expect anything but if people want to give we would much rather money or gift vouchers. How can we word this without causing offence?

When one of my friends got married, she had also lived with her boyfriend for years and they had everything they needed, other than a dining table and chairs.
She inserted a poem into each wedding invitiation, explaining that they had everything and that they really needed money to enable them to buy the table. It was a really nice way of asking for money without causing offence.

I'm at work at the moment but if I remember when I get home, I'll dig out the invite and post the poem she wrote.

We are sending out this invitation,
And hope you will join our celebaration.
If to send a gift is your intention,
In modesty we would like to mention,
We have already got a kettle and a toaster,
Crockery, dinner mats and coasters,
So rather than something we have already got,
Please give us money for our saving pot.
But, most importantly, we request,
That you turn up as our wedding guest!

I wouldn't worry about causing offence to any of your guests. I much prefer it when people ask for money or vouchers as at least you know you can't go wrong!! I am sure people would be grateful that they dont have to go hunting round the shops for presents as well as an outfit!!!

I would let them know subtley that you are planning some big home improvements and vouchers or money would be welcome to help with this.

My daughter's getting married in May want 2. She and her partner have lived together for 3 years so they have everything they need as well. The wedding invitation's are going out next week along with a request for money (Not compulsary). They plan to put any money into their saving's. I think it's a far better idea and should'nt cause offence and may be more easier for the guest's. They wont have to go trudging around the shops and no wedding list either! Good luck:-))
