I've been thinking over the last couple of days ( with the help of Mr Guinness, Mr Jameson and Mr Powers) about life in general.
So is it this wonderful gift that we have, to be savoured every day or is it actually a cruel joke?
On the one hand we have this amazing world, people to love and be loved by, children to wonder at etc and on the other we know that we are rotting away everyday, getting nearer and nearer to our ultimate demise. Everyone we love will suffer and die in just the same way and hate and injustice is everywhere.
How do you feel? Is your glass half empty or half full?

I know there is a lot of bad in this world but take a look around you and there is way more good and good people than bad. Also, take a look of some of the beauty in this amazing world of ours. Incredible.Thats what i think anyway, so definitely half full! in the words of Eric Idle, "always look on the bright side of life"

Unruliejulie, I completely agree with you, my glass rarely gets half empty as I like to keep it topped up.
Sometimes things happen in life that make us look at life so very differently, whilst these knocks are very real and soul destroying, we do get through them, and often life just gets better and better once we get through these stages.
There is always light at the end of the tunnel but sometimes the tunnel is a long one and the light seems a long way away, but it is there!!

I try to go with the half full theory noxlumus otherwise, in these day's of death and destruction (not to mention our own personal problems which Im sure most of us have) I'd be ready to pack it all in at times. Speaking for myself here, whenever there's been bad times in my life I've always found an inner strength to help me through. It's said we're all put on this earth for a purpose tho', I sometimes wonder what. I feel blessed with my 2nd marriage of 25 years and my kids but cursed by all the bad times so maybe that's my "Half Empty" glass? We keep on going and try to keep the glass half full.
I've been thinking about this a lot, especially about my own death (I'm not suicidal, I promise! lol). The way I see it, we all have this time given to us, and we can chose to use it however we want. I think it's important to think about death, as it as much a part of life as birth. The problem is, when you think about it and realise that whatever you do, you are going to die, it's easy to see everything as superficial, unimportant. Whatever we do is always going to have such a minimal importance in the grand scheme of things that it opens the door to a lot of potential abuse. But then, if you realise that everyone is the same, even if they do not have the same approach as you on life and its futility, then you have to respect their views too. That means living your life so as not to hurt anyone, and allow them to make the choices they are entitled to - just like you are entitled to them. If whatever you do is going to have such little importance, then the best you can do is try and make things a little bit nicer for people around you. You might as well!
I'm sorry if it doesn't make sense. That might be Mr Rose Wine talking.....:-)

bit long winded but.....
i used too spend all my time fishing for large carp, i would spend nights and nights in the depths of winter, cold wind rain...etc. and i rarely caught them
(large lakes few fish, i was'nt that bad at it!)
so weeks, months, a year would pass with lots of effort and suffering, and still never caught.....
but on the days i did............it was worth all the pain..
but what i mean too say is
suffering and pain, makes you appreciate life and its rare good times, much better
