Morning Person

Morning All,
As I sit here with my coffee trying to insert matches in to my eyes and wondering if there's a top out there in the same fetching shade of red my eyes are, I wondered can you actually become a morning person?
Now by that I don't mean one of those chirpy, chipper, all smiling, all singing, think they're in a bl00dy musical at 7am, irritating as a road drill outside your window and a budgie in your office type people.... Sorry if any of you recognise yourself in that description. (Incidently, do you realise how annoying you are?! You're probably in too much of a good mood to care right?!)
I mean just someone who does not mind dragging their bum out from their snug, warm bed and out in to the cold, dark freezing cold for no apparent reason other than someone somewhere dictated that for the next 40 years I have to spend the hours of 9am - 5pm in complete drudgery.
And I wouldn't mind but at the weekends I get up early quite happily simply because there's not a loud ringy thing screaming dictating that I have to get up!
Ahem.... oops, sorry, ranting (I'm really not a morning person)...So... Erm....How do I become a morning person?
Cheers

Ps: Comments about what side of the bed I got out of this morning and about becoming a 'nice' person will be met with extreme sarcasm, possibly rudeness. ;0)

I'm with you babe. Mornings should be shot at the stake or burned at dawn. Whichever is slower and more painful.
Mind you, I've been waking up around 6am every morning recently. It's GROUNDHOG DAY!!! I refuse to get out of bed though until my alarm goes off.
This morning my alarm went off at 7.45am and I switched it off then fell back to sleep. D'oh!! I woke up at 8.13 in a mad panic. I ran around the house screaming and threw mismatching clothes on (some inside out) and then left by 8.30.
I was only 10 minutes late for work. :o)

Is it EVERY morning you feel like this? I was reading somewhere yesterday that it is January which makes us feel like this because something about the time of year interrupts our sleep patterns. Having said that I am a positive ogre in the mornings (although have now managed to train myself to only grunt if necessary and then not until I have consumed at least 3 cups of tea). Thankfully I live alone so I can be as grumpy as I like.
I have found a shower first thing helps. When I was staying in Scotland, a dip in the burn first thing is great and makes you feel really alive and enervated. However, I wouldn't recommend it at this time of year.
Skiving off today and still couldn't be bothered to get out of bed til half an hour ago. And I still feel grumpy. Sorry I can't help, but I do sympathise.

you? an @rsehole ma sheri? mais non!!!
cant stand the mornings, and i dont start work till half 10ish. still got to be up, walk the mutts in the lashing rain and wind, clean up after the tramps in this house then head off to deal with chirpy punters.
cant face any of it without a shower and a minimum of 3 cuppas.
and if you're burning at dawn Champers, dont expect me to get up for it!! can you not make it more of a burning in mid afternoon kind of affair! xxx

I hate mornings with a passion. I cling to my duvet and pillows and have to be dragged screaming from the comfort of my bed. (okay thats a bit dramatic but I do feel that way...every morning) Im no better when I am out of bed. I spend the first half hour with my eyes still shut and cant string a sentence together until I have been up at least an hour.
Know how you feel! I've been late 6 times this year!!! Have found an old wind up clock though which scares me out of my bed on a morning now though so I think I have totally cracked it. Also find listening to the radio on a morning is good for easing the brain back into consciousness. Anybody hear the Chris Moyles show between 7 and 8 this morning? I thought I had fallen back to sleep it was so random! Same pants on for 2 days now....genius!
I think the answer might be to have a job you like? China Doll you said you don't mind getting up at the weekends so perhaps it's the reason for you getting up that is the problem. I too am not a morning person, I am a dragon in the mornings! but do think if I had something to look forward to it might be easier (although have yet to meet someone that 'looks forward' to working!) I'm about to start a new job in Feb and hoping it might actually be somehting that I don't mind leaving my bed for.....
