hi ive been tracing my friend for some time as we lost contact over the years. i recently phoned is father to ask if he had returned home to his home town of derby uk. he told me that russell had died but i cant find it myself to be true wheter im in shock i dont know. but is there anyway i can find the proof that my best friend russell grundle as really left me.any infomation would really help me to feel a little more stonger and more believeable towards others ty ,

This is really sad for you. As you have already spoken to his father once, can you not contact him again and explain you are finding it really difficult to come to terms with this because you have nothing concrete to convince you its true? I'm sure that even if he's still grieving he'll be able to understand and it may also help him to know someone thought so much of his son.

Sometimes in the Midlands (and elsewhere, of course), people use the phrase 'has died' to mean that there is no longer any contact with them, perhaps as a result of a family conflict. I'm not surprised that you can't find any closure with such a gruff reply...If you are too shocked to bring yourself to call back his dad, maybe you could ask someone else (maybe of a different gender) to call him, and if you have any reason to disbelieve his dad, gently hint that there might be some profit in his knowing his whereabouts. That would not be dishonest but at least you might know whether to look further and not bother with his family home any more.
