What company is it?
I am in the US and know loads of pople who have bought rings online, though I think it's really silly. You should look at the ring and feel it to get a real idea what you want. And I would never buy the ring and setting together - biggest rip off ever. Best to choose a diamond separately and then have it set. All this is just my humble opinion, of course :)

Looks like they use Paypal but have never used it myself so don't know how safe it is.
Using a credit card as well may give added protection.

Tell your friend to take a bit of female advice and let his choose her own engagement ring rather than having one foisted on her. She may not like his taste and she's going to be wearing it a long time. It would be a shame if the gloss was taken off the romatic occasion by her having to pretend that she likes what she's been given if she secretly hates it !
