Voluntary & Community Sector Funding

You may already know that the Big Lottery is planning to support the shortfall in funding the Olympics, taking away a substantial pot of funding from the voluntary sector. There has been considerable campaigning by the Voluntary & Community Sector and the link below will enable you to sign a petition to the Prime Minister to maintain voluntary sector funding. Voluntary sector funding, can you clarify what that means please? Does it mean we will have to make an extra contribution through our PAYE codes or something?

it means funding for local community groups and projects that otherwise do not run, as they rely on donations from the general public as well as the lottery.
you wont need to pay any extra, but this redistribution of funds could see many community projects ending due to a huge lack of funding.

but isn't the lottery fund divided into different parts, one for sport, one for the arts one for children etc, it has huge sums to distribute and it is very strict throuout the application process too,

I think whoever asked for the event to be held in London should foot the bill. I'd rather see the money go somewhere that needs it.

yes thats true dot.hawkes, but if a significant part of their funds are being put into the olympics then there's less remaining for all the good causes!

I thought that the Dream Number draw was specifically for the Olympic fund so the money for the other draws is not affected by that. I could be wrong though.
