Socks causing problems with big toenail

I feel stupid asking this but its really annoying me. I wear black socks everyday but the fluff from them keeps getting underneath the edges of my big toenail and looks like dirt. I then try to dig it out with a needle. Overtime this has meant the black fluff gets forced down the sides of my nails and it gets harder to remove. Does this happen to anyone else??

my son and my bf both get this! with my son i just use a nail brush at bathtime and it shifts it! Not sure how my bf does it though
Hmmm, this happens to me, but only with the wooly kind of socks. Hopefully in a few months i can go back to wearing cotton ones...
Try wearing argyle or cotton socks and you wont have a problem. My husband wears thick black socks and there are black wooly balls all over the carpet........I hate the damn things!
Cut a hole in your sock so that your big toe can protrude through it. This will eliminate, to a great extent the unwanted gathering of gunk.
oh God!!! dont use a needle!!!! If you jabbed yourself and drew blood you could cause a nasty infection.
Get some nail clippers and keep the nails clipped low and if it still is a problem soak in the bath or a foot tub to softened it up and then use a nail file cleaner thingy, NOT a needle!!! I'm a woman and my treat is getting regular pedicures and i see guys getting them done too.
