A colleague of mine has a blood pressure monitor with her at work at the moment and I took mine on it. I had 141 and 71 as my numbers. I'm 6ft 4, 12 stone and 23 and my heart rate was 60bpm. What does it all mean?

the second number, which is in your case, 71 is normal.
dont know about the rest. that second number should be between 70-85 to be considered normal, after that its said to be high. i#m on tablets for blood pressure, it used to 90-110 every time, before doc put me on them.
It means you are fine, 141 is slighly higher, the so-called norm is between 120/30, but its absolutely nothing to worry about.

60 beats per minuite.
laurence, sorry the number 30 is totally wrong, if u had that second number, you would have extremly low blood pressure, and would be gravelly ill, you could even die.

Cheers Devil woman! I shortened the 60 bpm bit after taking my pulse myself. Do age, sex, weight and height mean anything? I've had similar numbers before I think from a nurse and she said it was low at the time.
devilwomen, why are you on BP tablets?
devilwomen, thats 120/130, not 120 to 30
here we go again.

120 over 70 or 130 over 80 is absolutey fine
Age is taken into consideration when one's blood pressure is taken.
The best place to go for an accurate reading is your own GP.
i;m on blood pressure tablets becos my blood oressure was extremly high for seven years and could have caused stroke/heart attack if left untreated.

weight, smoking, lack of excercise, can cause high blood pressure, which can then lead to heart atteck or strokes.
You reading sounds fine but if you are concered go and see the practice nurse at yor surgery. BP monitors are generally accurate but should never be relyed on. Its better to have a 6 monthly BP check than suffering a stroke or hermorage (Spelling)
i got u now laurence. :0 )

I'm not concerned much, just trying to work out if my health has started to has been affected much from smoking for the last 11 years!
your post makes sense now, you were referring to the 2nd figure when you said 90-110, i thought you were trying to say your 1st & 2nd numbers were 90-110, sorry for the confusion
thats ok chuck.
Has your health been affected by smoking over the last 11 years?

Lung cancer springs to mind, sorry for getting to the point
ouch,
Oopsy..........aka Nursey says.
" Well Skreecheeboy, your vital signs ( BP/Pulse are pretty much fine) BUT you may still, of course, have a tumour in your lungs or elsewhere that won't show up without an x-ray or scan.
141 is a little on the high side, as Laurence rightly states.
If I were you I'd consider giving up the evil weed . "
It would appear that your health, on the surface, has not been affected by smoking for 11 years - but who knows what lies beneath - a lot more than you realise, I suspect.
Sleep well tonight ! ;op

Kind of makes me think I should have opted for giving up tobacco rather than beer for lent! Would a hang over affect any of it? Had about 8 pints last night!
devilwoman, was the ouch referring to my lung cancer post?

People have to be honest with themselves, smoking kills full stop, i've never smoked {45 years old} and have no intentions of smoking, i appreciate that people smoke through stress, depression etc, but it WILL kill you, i know i've opened a can of worms on here as some AB's will now mention drink etc, but i'm only being honest, apologies if i have offended anyone
